Piano Episode 5 (Recap)

Jae Soo works part time to delivery the news paper before he goes to school. Everyday he will buy two cartons of milk and a journal to Soo Ah House. He doesn't say anything after leaving those stuffs.

In her room Soo Ah is busy to call Kyung Ho's friends, after he hospitalized from the fight, he hasn't come home for two days. In the bakery, Uhk Gwan wears a suit to go to school. Jae Soo as usual is the cleverest student in his class. He sees his father comes to school, and it seems  he knows exactly why his father come. Kyung Ho's fight becomes regular problem for this family.

Uhk Gwan kneels down in front of Kyung Ho's home room teacher. He begs him again and again not to expel his son, suddenly Jae Soo comes between them. He makes his father stand up, he takes the conversation and blames himself not to care about his own brother.
I always love the conversation between Jae Soo and his father :
UG : "I went down on my knees, but he wouldn't bat an eye. But he gave in when the higest ranking student talked to him"
JS : " Nothing's been decided yet. He's just allowing some time before finalizing his decision"
UG : " Are we supposed to grease his palm a little ?"
JS (frowning) : "Dad !"
UG (pulls JS's hand) : "Alright, alright. Let's go"
JS : "Don't go down on your knees so easily "
UG : "You think I can control it ? My knees go down automatically "
JS (shouts) : "Don't ! You're not Romeo under Juliette's balcony.(lol) Don't go down on your knees like that."
UG : "I'd get on my knees in front of that teacher's dog if I had to "
JS : "Don't ! Please don't !"
UG : "That's the only thing I can do !"

JS : "Dad !"
UG : "What?"
JS : "Did you wash your face ?' (ha..ha..ha)
UG : " Is it dirty ?"
JS  : "Wipe the sleep out of your eyes !"

The scene moves to Kyung Ho who confronts Suk Chon in the snooker club. He beats him black and blue. As a result, Suk Chon who is one of Viper 'boys', the news that Kyung Ho beats him arrives in Viper ears. He is so upset, of course, but it's a shock since he knew that Kyung Ho is Ukh Gwan's son. He orders his subordinate to bring Kyung Ho to him.

Jae Soo comes to Soo Ah office along with Joo Hee.  He brings her sister with him to persuade Soo Ah to move with them.

Piano Episode 4 (Recap)

Uhk Gwan, sees his ex-boss in the bus, he runs as fast as possible. But his boss runs after him and finally captured him at Namsang Tower. After he got married, Uhk Gwan wants to live in a correct path, so meeting his ex- mafia boss is something he really wants to avoid. He doesn't want to return to those 'dark' days.

.
But to his surprise his boss takes him to a bakery, he gives him a bun and asks how him it tastes In simple words, Uhk Gwan is not the only who changes; his boss traded his finger to start a new life. He is now married to his long girl friend and runs his own bakery. For sure as we expected, Uhk Gwan found a job. He works again with his old boss in his new bakery.

He goes home happily to share the good news, but he found nobody at home. Eating the buns he has got from his boss bakery, he sits quietly on the stairs. Suddenly Jae Soo comes in tears, not because he is sad but he is too happy that Mom has delivered the baby girl.

Contrast to Mom, Jae Soo and Uhk Gwan happiness, the two siblings, Kyong Ho and Soo Ah look so down. They are disappointed that their Mom looks so happy with another man beside their deceased father. Kyong Ho even reminds Soo Ah that their father is Lee In Hak; when he walked with him ,everybody will bow to him. Their father received award from Finance department and he shook hands with the president.

The next day, Jae Soo involves again in another fight with Kyong Ho at school. As usual it's always Kyung Ho who starts the fight. Soo Ah rushes out only to say Jae Soo not to touch his 'brother'. Jae  Soo is really sad since usually Soo Ah always nice to him but today she speaks coldly and doesn't even allow him to call her 'Noona' (Big sister).

The other 'boys' who worked with Byun Hak Soo (Uhk Gwan boss), plead to work with him again. They cannot stand to work with Viper who treat them like a vermin. Hak Soo accepts them in condition they must change their way of life. Now the "White Hand Bakery" becomes more popular, many costumers some to buy their steamed black bean buns.

Uhk Gwan rushes home only to take home some of the most marketable buns in the bakery. Mom is very touching, and looks at Ukh Gwan tenderly. Unknowing to them Soo Ah looks at the couple with anger. She is so upset that her mom easily forgets their father.

Soo Ah shows her upset to her mom and runs away from home. It's dark but Soo Ah doesn't return home, everybody looks for him but it's only Jae Soo who finally finds where she hides. I like some words of Jae Soo when he looks for Soo Ah

"Noona, I thought I was going to die, worrying about you. I really thought I was dying. I don't know why I didn't think of this place sooner. Soo Ah Noona, the "I am a Chesnut Tree Too", is it a fake chestnut tree ? It may not be real, but it became a real chestnut tree, because it shouted that it was. I may not be your real brother,but I am still your brother. Just like Kyong -Ho, I am your younger brother. Can't I shout too? If I shout, can I be your brother ?

Mom blamed herself on what happened to Soo Ah, she feels down and guilty. Her happiness somehow makes Soo  Ah and Kyung Ho suffered. Uhk Gwan comes and comforts her, he said that because of her eyes he returns to bring Jae Soo back. Ukh Gwan promise her that he will do his best to become a good father for Soo Ah and Kyung Ho


The story jumps two years later, today Mom (her name is Hae Rim) has a date with Dad, they leave the children in "White Hand Bakery". They eat in the fancy restaurant and ends their date in the small boat. Ukh Gwan gives Hae Rim a ring and confesses his love for her, and they kiss.

But suddenly the motor boat passes and cuts of the rope of the boat. Hae Rim tries to catch the flowers but she falls to the sea, Ukh Gwan jumps to save her.  But thehe moment Uhk Gwan is conscious, he is in the hospital. Frantically he looks for Hae Rim only to see her died in front of his eyes.

Since the death of Hae Rim, Ukh Gwan lives in misery, but suddenly Soo Ah and  Kyung Ho come with the cops to the bakery. The cops bring them to stay with Uhk Gwan because their uncle and aunt sell the house and run away. Since Uhk Gwan is their legal guardian they must stay with him.
It's heart broken to see Soo Ah in this scene, she cries hysterically and blames Ukh Gwan for her mother's death. But patiently  Uhk Gwan begs them to stay with him, at least until they're adult.

The ending of episode 4 jumps eights years later, it shows hows Kyong Ho, with his high school uniform, tries to escape from the bunch of boys who seems want to beat him. He ends up hiding in Soo Ah's office.

Piano Episode 2 (Recap)

Knowing Jae Soo has beaten black and blue, Uhk Gwan drags him to meet the boy's parents. He intends to ask the compensation money to beat his son. But to his surprised Jae Soo brings him to 'that' woman house. Instead of asking the compensation money he is standoffish and mumbles about the kids who should get along well after the fight. The woman suggests him to do the x-ray for Jae Soo, nervously Uhk Gwan agrees but he can't take off  his eyes of her.

The picture is in the hospital where Ukh Gwan secretly look at her. Unfortunately the doctor who used to help the gangster disturb him, and think he comes to give him another gangster patient. Since there is nothing wrong with Jae Soo, both father and son return home. Some of their conversation on the way home is funny but somehow it's very touching.

Jae Soo (JS) : "What's wrong with you ?!"
Uhk Gwan ( UG) : "What ?"
JS : "You ignored her greeting. You wouldn't answer any of her questions just looking at her with your mouth open like an idiot."
UG : "Idiot, did you call me idiot?"
JS : "With your mouth open"
UG : "How dare you call your elder an idiot ? Is that what they taught you in kindergarten?"
JS : " I didn't go to kindergarten"
UG : "Hey,....hey. Did I really look like an idiot back there? Did I ?"

Mom punishes Kyong Ho, but it doesn't change the bitterness inside him. The anger of  losing his father makes Kyong Ho loses his control. At school he beats again Jae Soo. He throws his frustration by using his fist.
Mom is making cookies when her sister and brother in law come to their house. Those two siblings blame Mom for her husband death. Mrs. Lee husband is a very successful man, and they knew that their younger brother must left some fortunes for his  wife and children.

They are so annoying and speak so harsh, until Mom gives the envelope for them. It seems that Mom understands what they want but she cannot offend them and has no choice except to give what they want.
The setting change into the prison when Byun Hak Soo, Uhk Gwan ex boss has arrested. He has a visitor who is none than his long girl friend who gives what he needs and the bible, which the boss said he won't need it. But his girl friend didn't give up.

In the market Ukh Gwan is shounting to the poor lady and asks for his 'security' money but the lady is upset since she thinks as a thugh Uhk Gwan doesn't do anything. He suddenly takes out his knife and points it to the lady, and he grabs her money bag and takes some money from it ,but to his shock Mrs. Lee is right in front of him saying that she just bring Jae Soo's x-ray result. Uhk Gwan feels embarrassed, runs away and curses himself to become a fool.

At home Mom treats Jae Soo's wound with Soo Ah help meanwhile Uhk Gwan gets drunk and starts to fight. Suddenly some of his ex gang comes and tells him to keep low profile since all Viper goon are every where. In his drunk state he comes to pick Jae Soo at Lee's family but he falls unconscious. Mrs Lee asks Soo Ah to look for some helps. But suddenly her annoying in laws come again and start to accuse her to fool around with a man. They come again the next morning and make the house  upside down. I believe they are looking for the house certificate to take  away from Mrs. Lee and claims later the house for their own.

Later at night Mrs. Lee tries to explain to her children over dinner  what happened today , but Kyong Ho is very difficult . He just adds to a desperate Mom another problem, she becomes more desperate  although in front of her children  she tries to be strong .

The setting jumps again to Ukh Gwan who is gambling but he never gets the jackpot, he is upset and starts to yell at one of the worker. He returns home with anger but suddenly Viper's boys come and hit them.  Many people watch them, he is black and blue, but something pinches his heart when a pair of his son eyes, full of tears, are looking at him.

Ukh Gwan realized that what he has done makes people around him sad. Because of him the people he cares so much is in tears. He knows he must change his life in order not to hurt them. 

The next morning he helps his boss' girl friend, who has food stall. She knows that Uhk Gwan has a good heart so she accepts him to work for her in one condition : he must go to church.

After that day, Uhk Gwan just does his best to work hard ,tries his best to be a good father for Jae Soo. He  makes kimbab for him but as we expected, he cannot do it well. Meanwhile his feeling for Mrs. Lee has never changed but he knew he is not worth for her. So he understood when she refuses his help and does her best to stay away from him. 

But everything goes wrong when one day Ukh Gwan who is in the church,  saw Mrs. Lee comes too. But some ladies bad words her and it makes Ukh Gwan upset  He suddenly stand up and shout at them, ruins the whole mass.

Mrs. Lee rushes out from the church followed by Uhk Gwan, she went to the river bank where her husband ashes were scattered. She sobs and pour out all her sorrow.  Looking at her from a far, Uhk Gwan mutters the word "sorry" again and again.

Just like the ending of episode one, there is a monologue at the end, this time is  Kyong Ho's :

"At the same riverbank where my father's ashes were scattered, another man begs for my mother's lovhe. My yearning for my loved ones is too strong to shut it out with this hatred. I've been consumed with hatred, pushing the love aside but in this rain even that hatred is washing away. Now what will I live on ...?

Piano Episode 1 (Recap)

The scene opens with the group of gangsters who entertain their boss. Han Uhk Gwan (Jo Jae Hyun) is the boss second hand and he always looks nervous and tried hard to please his boss. The boss calls Viper ( Lee Jae Yong) and tells him that Uhk Gwan saw him meeting Director Park (I believe he's the boss competitor). But he denies and says instead that Uhk Gwan doesn't have a good vision. Then the boss tell Uhk Gwan to see Director Park by himself.

The group is on the way to somewhere when suddenly Viper who drives the car hit a dog. The boss is really upset and slaps him. He tells Viper and Uhk Gwan to bury  the dog in a nice place. Viper takes the boss slap as a threat for his existence in the group. Later that day Viper calls Director Park and tells his plan.

The next morning the gangstar attacks Danam, the Boss orders Ukh Gwan to lead the attack and gives Director Park a little threatening. Ukh Wah with so much hesitation and sweating, blends with the other boys and finally talked to Director Park. But he cannot hides his nervous and make some mistakes. Since it takes time, the boss gets off from the car and entered Director Park's office.

Not long after the boss talked to Director Park, suddenly the police comes and captured the gangster. The boss and Ukh Gwan are in the bridge where the police surrounds him. Ukh Gwan talking about how helped  the Boss before, he says that it is the Boss' time to save him, then he jumps to the sea.

The setting changes with a middle age woman who looks for Uhk Gwan at the police station. Then we back to Uhk Gwan who is saved and now he hurts himself to pretend that he is injured in the fight. When he joins his gangs he is surprised that the Boss is disappeared. Uhk Gwan smiles to himself cause it means he is the Boss now.

The setting changes again to Lee family, after Dad passed away, Mom (Jo Min Soo)  moves from Seoul to Busan. Mom takes the children with her,  Lee Soo Ah ( later will be acted by Kim Han Neult) takes his father death more easily than her younger brother, Lee Kyung Ho (later will be acted by Jo In Song).

Back to Uhk Gwan ,who suddenly becomes a Boss,  spends all the gangs' money for party and women, one of the gang member reminds him that he shouldn't do like that. He must look after the boys 's life than himself. Than Ukh Gwan with a little bit exaggerate spends the money for his boys (the gang members).

But Uhk Gwan life as a boss is not long when suddenly Viper who cooperates with Director Park stopped him and embarrassed him in front of his subordinate. He kneels begging for life, and Uhk Gwan started his life as small thug.

One day a woman calls Uhk Gwan and asks him to protect her bar, but to his surprised the woman takes him to a little boy who greets him and tells his name is Han Jae Soo. (later will be acted by Ko Soo) The boy's mother is Uhk Gwan's ex girl friend, Han Sook , from Mokpo. She runs away with a Japanese and left  her son behind.

Uhk Gwan who has trouble with his life doesn't want a burden . He can't have a child  to feed, he tries to leave the boy but the boy finds him at the police station.On the train to Busan, Uhk Gwan almost leaves Jae Soo, when a pair of beautiful eyes in  the train change his decision.

Mother, Kyung Ho and Soo Ah are on the same train with Uhk Gwan and his son, Jae Soo. When mother saw Uhk Gwan left the train, mother thought he left the boy for good. But then she saw Uhk Gwan returns to his seat.

Ukh Gwan finally lives together with his son. Jae Soo is a good boy and he is very clever. He is in the same class as Kyung Ho, But Kyung Ho dislikes him and they involve into a fight. Jae Soo hurts badly and needs to rush to the hospital. Mom takes care of Jae Soo, but he left without saying goodbye.

The end of Episode 1, closed by Jae Soo monologue  (I love to hear Ko Soo voice in this monologue), he looks like captured by the police, and this is what he says :
"What was it that made my father turn back ? after a life of nothing but unhappiness he took his one shot of happiness. because of my father decision I've had to face one danger after another. But no matter how much I reflect on it all, this was the only choice I could make ...in the name of the love my father dreamed of when he was in the rock bottom"
